Applied Microbiology Laboratory Assistant Responsibilities and Laboratory Experience:
Preparation of culture media.
Operation of an autoclave (steam sterilizer).
Use of a laboratory shaker.
Use of a microwave for heating culture media.
Operation of a laminar airflow cabinet (biosafety cabinet).
Use of an incubator.
Operation of a temperature-controlled water bath.
Microbiological testing of lubricant gel samples for TAMC (Total Aerobic Microbial Count) and TYMC (Total Yeast and Mold Count) to determine microbial contamination levels.
Microbiological testing of catheter samples for TAMC and TYMC. Microbiological testing of water used for lubricants and catheters. Environmental monitoring, including air testing at designated locations. Swab testing of employees’ garments and gloves.
Colony counting and interpretation of microbiological results.
Reading test results and preparing microbiological test reports.
