Project Title: Process Simulation of Propylene Glycol Production from Lactic Acid Process Simulation Software: Aspen Plus V12 and Microsoft Excel
Project Advisor: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anawat Sungpet
Academic Year: 2023
This chemical engineering project was a study to learn about the effects of the reboiler duty of reactive distillation columns on the performance of the process that produces propylene glycol (1,2-PDO) from lactic acid. This project pursued this objective because the reboiler duty affected the temperature profile in the columns, which in turn had effects on both the reactions and separation in the columns. This project used Aspen Plus V12 software for the process simulation and varied the reboiler duty of the columns used in the acetalization and acetal hydrolysis processes.
