Effectiveness of Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) with Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) as a Predictor for Stock Prices — Individual Dissertation Project

Summer 2019

- Imported necessary libraries to Python and use Pandas (imported library) to access data directly from Yahoo Finance (~11,000 records).
- Used Math, Scikit-learn (Machine Learning) and TensorFlow (Deep Learning) to train, to test various models and to compare the effectiveness of each model.
- Found RNN with LSTM to be the most effective at error minimization with slightly more calculation time than other tools.

Advising Banks on Giving Loans — Individual Project

Spring 2019

- Imported given information (~1,900 records) to Weka to enter the process of Data Mining by visualizing the data.
- Conducted data cleaning on attributes with flat and wide variables, mis-typed entries, minority variables and majority variables.
- Optimized models by machine learning using feature selection and random search with 10 folds cross-validation on traditional statistical approaches and also neural network algorithms.
- Found decision tree to be the algorithm with the highest accuracy 80.05% with minimal calculation time.

Identify Predictors for Sales — Individual Project

Autumn 2018

- Imported data (~ 79 records) to SPSS and transform some attributes to prepare for optimum calculation.
- Constructed the statistical models by applying regression analysis which was simple linear and multiple linear regression with forward stepping and backward elimination strategies.
- Optimized the variability of Sales by using multiple linear regression that almost reaches 100%.

Stock-Trak simulation stock trading — Group Project

Fall 2017

- Formed a team of 3 to apply technical and fundamental analysis using the Stock-Trak program.
- Drew graphs using TradingView for technical analysis and analyzed financial reports, etc. based on Reuters Database before making trading decisions.
- Won 2nd place with a total of 16 teams and achieved around 250% return.

Identify Attributes of Smokers — Group Project

Summer 2017

- Prepared given data before applying statistical approaches by scanning and cleaning some samples to eliminate outliers and errors by Excel.
- Constructed hypotheses with a random strategy to identify attributes of smokers using R.
- Derived 58% accuracy to explain attributes for smokers and concluded that either random strategy is non-stationary for the given data and alternative approaches could be applied or more samples are required to explain the variability in the attributes of smokers.
